Pitch-perfect h/c.

Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Duckling explores the uses of fairy tales in talking about characters of color.

Trade All My Tomorrows Indiana Jones, Indy and Marion pre-canon. Long and plotty fic that somehow catches the exact feeling of what it's like being the kind that's different. Eventually Calvin/Susie, but Hobbes is a constant presence, which is nice.

In My Life Glee, Rachel/Quinn homg so cuuuute!

Life And Variations Spirited Away. Alanna is hardcore in any universe.

Pride of the Lioness Song of the Lioness - Alanna in the aftermath of her father's death. Sweet.

The Perils and Profits of Being a Wallflower Song of the Lioness. This is the best story in all yuletide this year, I am convinced. Beautiful and lyrical and literary and sexy and the kind of thing that makes you cry from too much feeling.

The Magical Healing Power of Threesomes Dreamwidth/LJ/Fandom omg amazingosity.

Packet Switching Dreamwidth/LJ/Fandom, the one where DW is black and uses a wheelchair.

Open Beta Dreamwidth/LJ/Fandom, the one where Fandom is socially awkward and LJ is kind of a hipster, and Dreamwidth is hot.

Skill Set Disney Princesses, Tiana/Naveen.
Took The Baby to see The Princess and the Frog, and (this so doesn't count as a spoiler) that's a really big, obviously displayed diamond ring. Thinking back, I don't remember Disney doing the diamond-industrial complex thing before. Yah boo hiss.

Am now playing happily with the Yuletide Madness prompts lists.
Love Song
Rainer Maria Rilke

How shall I hold my soul and yet not touch
Or stir it with your own? How shall I place
It clear of you to anything beyond?
How gladly I would stow it next to such
Things in the darkness as will not be found
Down in an alien and silent space
That does not resonate when you resound.
But everything that stirs us, me and you,
Takes us together like a bow when two
Taut strings are stroked into the voice of one.
What instrument have we been lain along?
Whose are the hands that play our unison?
What a sweet song!

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/179613.html.
Good Solstice, fandom!

I love Solstice. Maybe it's a function of a Northern Michigan childhood, I don't know - but somehow I always feel, Solstice morning, as if a tremendous weight has been lifted from me, as if I am free, as if I can fly.

And this year it coincides with my post-yuletide-uploading happy, so I'm all smiley. Seriously, you guys, do you all have any idea how wonderful you are? Today I'm amazed by fannish power and ingenuity: not only did we write all those bloody Yuletide stories - not to mention recording all of the podbangs! - but we built the sites that hold them. This year, Yuletide is on our own servers. And I'm just overwhelmed by how cool this entire enterprise is. Not only are the sisters doing it for themselves, they're also ridiculously smart, innovative, and artistic.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/179060.html.
Annnd of course, two days before the deadline, my yuletide fic is demanding the use of verse. Land's sake! But I've got at least 7,000 words of pretty solid work, so I figure it's okay for me to spend an evening marking out meter.
Urg, flist, I am having wireless unhappy. I share internet with the girl next door, and sometimes it does this thing where the network connection vanishes for a second and then comes right back. My boyfriend's pc is never phased by this, but my mac gets all fussy, and the system has to be turned off and on again. Which wouldn't be a big deal, except that it did that last night and my neighbor hasn't been home since, and I have a worried that she'd gone home for the holiday.

Do any of you have the slightest idea what this glitch is, and if there's anything I can do to repair it? Because the network is running - I can see it in the Airport menu - and the Biy's machine works fine, but mine won't. hook. up. And I hate using his system. /whine

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/178035.html.

"the blonde"? Is a girl. I can tell, because you spelled that descriptor in the feminine way. Words that are also not ungendered: fiance/fiancee, confidant/confidante. Get the picture? I keep feeling like I've accidentally wandered into Elric genderswap fic - not that there's anything wrong with that.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/177092.html.
for a cold night

Carl Sandburg ~ Snow

Snow took us away from the smoke valleys into white mountains, we saw velvet blue cows eating a vermillion grass and they gave us a pink milk.

Snow changes our bones into fog streamers caught by the wind and spelled into many dances.

Six bits for a sniff of snow in the old days bought us bubbles beautiful to forget floating long arm women across sunny autumn hills.

Our bones cry and cry, no let-up, cry their telegrams:
More, more—a yen is on, a long yen and God only knows when it will end.

In the old days six bits got us snow and stopped the yen—now the government says: No, no, when our bones cry their telegrams: More, more.

The blue cows are dying, no more pink milk, no more floating long arm women, the hills are empty—us for the smoke valleys—sneeze and shiver and croak, you dopes—the government says: No, no.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/176707.html.
Carry

Sam/Daniel, PG, 2,095 words. prompt: I can't carry it, but I can carry you and it as well. Daniel-whumping, scary-alien-artifacts-made-them-make-out.

Have broken a thousand words on yuletide story; go me! I even think that most of them are pretty, functional words. It helps that I've been daydreaming this fic out in my little pockets of spare time, so that I really have a concrete idea where it's going. At least for now.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/176094.html.
Oh my god MLA 2009 is going to make me tear my hair out. I keep fumbling, inputting the key commands for underline and then getting all messed up. Also, I fail to see the point of distinguishing between journal articles on paper or via jstor - it's the same rutting article either way. And, using that frame, how exactly does one draw up a general bibliography of things one has not actually read, but might read someday?

It can't possibly be this complicated.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/175433.html.

Reading about hobbits again. Why do i put myself through this? they never fail to make me cry a deal too much. But then again, they also make me happier than anything at the same time. Odd little paradoxical things. I just can't seem to resist them - they pull at me so. With their love and devotion and stubbornness and silly small ways of thinking about things. <3 <3 <3.

This entry was originally posted at http://lotesse.dreamwidth.org/174580.html.
