Sam/Daniel, PG, 2,095 words. prompt: I can't carry it, but I can carry you and it as well. Daniel-whumping, scary-alien-artifacts-made-them-make-out. Kinda-sorta a Lord of the Rings fusion – I couldn't resist, with that prompt.

Because this one is always fun. Works-in-progress meme: post a few lines from the fic you're working on.
*
“You remind me of someone,” he said at last, which was partially true – if Darla had ever been a sweet young thing, which Angelus privately doubted, she may have been not unlike this gilded knife of a girl. “What's your name?”
“Rebecca Sharp. Becky. And I shan't ask yours,” she answered pertly. “By your voice you're an Irishman, and by your face you're not low born, but by your voice I should call you quite a wicked personage, for no virtuous man would ever speak so sweetly of buying and selling.”
*
Jack knew that Daniel needed an anchor. He just didn't know where to find the chain. Sha're possessed links by the score: her lips, her voice, her finger in the sand, the smell of her body. The breathing artifact of her skin, her language straight out of Daniel's work, Daniel's dreams. Egypt had been his home as a child, surrounded by love and care and the dusty remnants of history. Sha're – Abydos – was that home come again.
*
It was just as well, Angel thought. He didn't really want to see them cover her over with cold earth. He didn't really want to have to remember what it felt like to claw a way through clinging soil, pull yourself up onto the wet grass and feel the demon pawing over your dead heart. He didn't want to have those memories get so close to her, as if their gore might splash her pretty bright clothes, stain her mouth bitten red.
*
Prospero opened the chest, and it was full of bright and beautiful cloth, and pearls, and small dainty things that shone like jewels. Miranda gave a little gasp and fell to her knees before it, her hands going out to touch and caress the luxurious silks and velvets, the like of which she’d never seen. They were softer than the fur of any creature, cooler than the sea at night. The gowns that she pulled out to their length were heavier than she expected, and longer than she was tall. “Try them on,” her father said. “They belong to you.”

An au of the final chapters of RotK. Crack premise: if it were possible for Sam to take up the burden of Frodo's pain, and allow his beloved master to be free. Tolkien splits his ending evenly between comedy and tragedy, with Sam getting all of the one and Frodo getting all of the other. Sam has marriage and children and riches, the narrative of celebration, of life ascendant. Frodo has the tragic side: death, loss, all the things that never get better, and at last his martyr's end. But a different end to the story could be managed, if Sam and Frodo were to share both the joy and the sorrow of their victory and their adventure. drama, angst, hurt/comfort. thanks and endearments to my beta,

Note: forgive my elision of Rose. By setting my story in the first March after the Quest, I’ve effectively cut off poor Sam’s courtship of her. But there are only three ways, as I can see, for things to work out once she’s introduced into the mix. The first way is Tolkien’s, and clearly I’m diverging from that here. The second is Mary Borsellino’s, and I love PGY with all my heart and soul, but she’s already written it. The third is the one where Rose is the opponent, the Other Woman, the one who has to lose her man, and I really don’t want to write that story. I’ve no quarrel with Rose, and I believe very firmly that she was a nice lass who loved Sam. But Rose gets the canon. She won't mind my sending her off to marry some other lad for this au.

I'd thought that the next fic I finished was going to be the big LotR thing, but then I found this lurking at the back of my head. Erm, first Stargate fic, go me? As always, I seem to be late to the party.
title: your voice is pomegranate wine
pairing: Daniel/Teal
rating: non-explicit
wordcount: 1,125
summary: Daniel's voice winds around them like an opiate, sweet and lulling and filled with secret promise, and Teal'c draws in a long breath to catch the strange words in his body. The poetry of his own youth beats through him like a drum, and he desires. Set in early Season 1.

This year, I wrote ten stories in nine fandoms, for a total wordcount of 18,569. No less than five of them (eep!) were written for Yuletide; I might have had a bit of a go on Christmas Eve with the stocking stuffers. Um.
Yuletide stories first:
Wearing the Sod Gown
Castle in the Sky. gen & Sheeta/Pazu, g, 4,753 words. Sheeta wears Pazu's patched castoffs and Dola's fancy lendings, braiding her short hair down against the wind.
Jorinde and Joringel
The Brothers Grimm. Jacob/Wilhelm, pg, 845 words. "You said witches liked to kidnap and enchant girls. And yet, this one only seemed to want to enchant you."
Romanza
A Room With a View. Charlotte/Eleanor, pg-13, 868 words. Misses Lavish and Bartlett play at costumes and seductions amidst the flowers of Italy.
celestial alphabets
His Dark Materials. Serafina Pekkala and Mary Malone, g, 453 words. We are the symbols around the rim, Serafina told Mary. We are the angelic scripts, the celestial alphabets.
Halfway Through the Woods
Into the Woods. Gen, g, 676 words. The Baker tried to be in love with Cinderella, for a while.
( and the rest of them, for Punditslash, Prydain, House, and Supernatural )

Hokay, everything that has to be mailed is mailed. The only stuff I have left on applications is material that I'll submit online, which means that everything left is completely under my control. I'm starting to feel a little better.
As seen around the flist, the works-in-progress meme: post a few lines from the fic you're working on.
Of course, everything is backburnered right now because of yuletide, but before that, I was writing

( Prydain )
( Into The Woods )

I'm home, my cats are so damn adorable it's pretty much ridiculous, I'm getting started on some serious prep for my teaching work this fall. Jezebel featured a conversation on Flowers in the Attic today, which was awesome.
And I have fic, which I could have posted two weeks ago but I always feel weirdly detached from things while I'm away. It probably deserves better than a Friday afternoon, but I've been sitting on it for so long that I'm too twitchy not to post it now. A new fandom, and everything. My House binge last month was to intense for it to not result in fic eventually.
Title: From The River Dark
Pairing: House/Wilson
2,348 words, rated pg
A belated post-ep for 97 Seconds. House sticks knives in wall sockets and loves Wilson – naturally, there has to be fallout.
